Coolant Thermostat — Coolant Temperature Below Regulating Temperature
The engine is not reaching the expected operating temperature within the expected amount of time.

What P0128 means
P0128 is set when coolant temperature remains below the level expected after sufficient engine operation.
A thermostat stuck partially open is common, but coolant-temperature sensor accuracy, ambient conditions, cooling-fan operation, and coolant-system issues should also be considered.

What can trigger P0128?
Thermostat stuck open
Coolant may circulate through the radiator before the engine reaches normal temperature.
Coolant-temperature sensor error
Incorrect temperature reporting can make the module believe the engine is too cold.
Cooling fan operating unnecessarily
A fan commanded on continuously may delay engine warm-up.
Cooling-system issue
Low coolant or other system conditions may affect temperature behavior or sensor readings.

Start here
Review coolant-temperature data cold
Compare coolant temperature with ambient or intake-air temperature before starting the engine.
Monitor warm-up
Watch how quickly coolant temperature rises during normal operation.
Check thermostat operation
Determine whether coolant begins circulating through the radiator too early.
Inspect sensor and cooling-fan behavior
Verify temperature data is plausible and fans are not operating unexpectedly.

Confirm the fault before replacing parts
P0128 identifies a condition detected by the vehicle control system. It does not automatically identify one failed component. Test the affected system before replacing parts.
