Understanding the values
Voltage
Voltage is electrical potential difference. In automotive systems, voltage provides the electrical pressure that drives current through a circuit.
Current
Current is the amount of electrical charge flowing through a circuit and is measured in amperes.
Resistance
Resistance opposes current flow. Higher resistance reduces current when voltage remains constant.
Power
Electrical power describes the rate at which electrical energy is being used and is measured in watts.
Automotive use
Ohm's Law can help evaluate resistive loads, determine expected current draw, calculate power, and understand electrical circuit behavior.
Measurements matter
Calculated values are only as accurate as the measurements entered. Always use appropriate test equipment and circuit specifications.
CORE FORMULAS
Ohm's Law
V = I × R
I = V ÷ R
R = V ÷ I
P = V × I
V = voltage, I = current, R = resistance, and P = electrical power.
