P0301

TORQDEX // POWERTRAIN DTC

Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected

Misfire activity has been detected repeatedly on cylinder 1.

CODE FAMILY Powertrain
SEVERITY HIGH
DRIVEABILITY May Be Limited
COMMON AREA Cylinder 1 / Ignition / Fuel / Mechanical

01 // CODE DEFINITION

What P0301 means

P0301 means the control module has detected abnormal combustion events associated specifically with cylinder 1.

The cause may be ignition, fuel delivery, compression, wiring, or another condition affecting that cylinder.

02 // COMMON SYMPTOMS

What you may notice

Rough idle
Engine vibration
Reduced power
Hesitation
Poor fuel economy
Flashing check-engine light

03 // COMMON CAUSES

What can trigger P0301?

IGNITION

Cylinder 1 ignition fault

A worn plug, weak coil, damaged wire, or poor electrical connection may prevent proper ignition.

FUEL

Injector or fuel problem

Cylinder 1 may have a restricted, electrically faulty, or poorly supplied injector.

MECHANICAL

Low compression

Valve, ring, head-gasket, camshaft, or valvetrain problems can reduce cylinder contribution.

AIR

Localized intake leak

An intake leak near cylinder 1 may create a cylinder-specific lean condition.

04 // DIAGNOSTIC ORDER

Start here

01

Check related codes and live misfire data

Verify whether cylinder 1 is consistently accumulating misfire counts.

02

Inspect the spark plug

Check condition, gap, deposits, contamination, and evidence of abnormal combustion.

03

Swap the ignition coil where practical

Move the coil to another cylinder and determine whether the misfire follows it.

04

Evaluate injector operation

Verify injector command, electrical integrity, and fuel delivery.

05

Check compression

Compare cylinder 1 compression with the remaining cylinders.

05 // DIAGNOSTIC PRINCIPLE

Confirm the fault before replacing parts

P0301 identifies a condition detected by the vehicle control system. It does not automatically identify one failed component. Test the affected system before replacing parts.
